While finding the next piece for your transport is the main goal in each level, there’s also multiple side quests, collectibles, and challenges to uncover to test your skill. Finding and commanding Tinykin is an endlessly addicting loop of discovery and satisfaction that never once felt stale during the 11 hours it took me to finish the game.Īs you explore the house and collect new Tinykin, you’ll visit several rooms that serve as giant levels. Red Tinykin serve as bombs, while others (such as yellow and blue) can create bridges or form chains to transfer electricity to different objects. ![]() The pink Tinykin are the first you discover, and their mighty strength allows Milo to command them to lift, carry, and knock things around. You find new Tinykin by stumbling across and hatching their eggs, which is as simple as running into them and causing a satisfying “pop” noise that instantly grants you a new follower. ![]() Tinykin come in a multitude of colors and shapes, each with their own special abilities that help Milo navigate this oversized world he’s stuck in. The biggest draw to this game is obviously the titular Tinykin, and if you’ve played Pikmin then you’ll have an idea of what to expect here. Even when the story feels like it’s not firing on all cylinders, the visual presentation is so strong that you can’t help but marvel at what’s on the screen. Combined with fantastic and fluid animation, these 2D characters seamlessly mesh with the 3D environments in a way that’s cute and compelling, and it made me smile from beginning to end. All of the characters are displayed as flat 2D images in a fully 3D world, and while that may sound weird at first, it becomes instantly endearing as soon as you see it in motion. Utilizing a mix of 2D and 3D elements, Tinykin has a look that you don’t see often. However, the charm and visual style of the game elevates it to soaring heights. With the aid of the insects who inhabit the home and a tiny race of helpful creatures called Tinykin, Milo sets out to find the components to create a new way home and return to his original size.Īside from some really cool exploration in regard to the hierarchy of the insect inhabitants (such as dung beetles, ants, and fireflies), the story is admittedly quite simple. While he does indeed discover our beautiful Earth, he finds himself stranded in a mysterious house and shrunken to the size of an ant, complicating any plans of returning home with news of his discovery. Tinykin puts players in the itty-bitty shoes of an intergalactic archeologist/scholar named Milodane, or “Milo” for short, on his quest to discover humanities homeworld. With Tinykin, the developers at Splashteam have crafted a charming little game that lets you live out that childhood fantasy of being shrunken down from the comfort and safety of your couch.
